Master of Science (MSc) Program in Geology at Eötvös Loránd University, Institute of Geography and Earth Sciences



The MSc in Geology at Eötvös Loránd University is a two-year (120 credits)  international program where students must choose one of the following three specializations: (1) Geology and Palaeontology, (2) Petroleum Geology, Hydrogeology and Environmental Geology, (3) Mineralogy, Petrology, Geochemistry, Archaeometry and Economic Geology.


Admission requirements: A BSc in Earth Sciences/Geology obtained from any higher educational institution in accordance with the Bologna Declaration. Applicants having a BSc degree issued by any other institution may have to enroll to a one-semester „catch-up” program (depending on the chosen MSc specialization and on their prior studies and knowledge in the chosen special field. A good command of the English language is obligatory.


The Applicant is interviewed in the application/admission procedure to determine the level of prior knowledge and to decide about the possible Program Specialization which is chosen according to the applicant’s preference and the opinion of the interviewing professors. The interview can partially be carried out by means of telecommunication. The final decision on the program specialization, tutor, thesis work and eventual catch-up courses is, however, made after a personal meeting and discussion with the Applicant.

            Application fee: USD 200

            Registration fee: USD 100/semester


(No registration fee is charged in the first semester.)
